Worried about wrinkles?

There are two types of ageing that affects the skin,

  • Intrinsic ageing – caused by our genetics starts in our 20’s and is continuous
  • Extrinsic ageing – caused by environmental factors, by far the most common cause is UV exposure.

Other causes include smoking, alcohol, repetitive facial expressions, sleeping patterns and gravity.

Anti Wrinkle Treatment

The above causes gradual loss of elasticity and volume from decreased fat pads and changes in bone density. These in turn lead to wrinkle development and volume depletion.

Commonly seen as frown lines, brow lines, crow’s feet etc.

Anti-wrinkle treatments with botulinum toxins act on the nerves in the muscles that contribute to the lines. The ability of the muscle to contract is reduced and therefore the lines are reduced.

Effects of treatments may start to be noticed at 3 days, for some this may take up-to 2 weeks.

Treatments usually last 3-4 months.

Anti-wrinkle treatment with dermal fillers acts to replace volume loss.

Hyaluronic Acid is our skin’s natural moisturiser and this is the component that is used to achieve volume replacement. They can be used to treat varied areas.

Dermal Fillers are an injectable facial filler used by cosmetic, dermatological, and plastic surgeons to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that delivers nutrients, helps the skin to retain moisture and softness and also adds volume. It stabilises the skin structure, attracts and binds water, and contributes to the elastic properties of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid injections help to replenish the skins natural support structures damaged by ageing. Dermal fillers are used as a lip augmentation agent, and to fill in hollow places and scars on the face. However, all hyaluronic acid facial filler products are eventually absorbed by the body, usually within one to two years, causing the patient to repeat the treatment to maintain a younger look.

Other Treatments

Treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Botulinum toxin can be very effective at managing underarm sweating.

Small doses are injected into the skin blocking the nerve supply to the apocrine glands and preventing them from producing sweat.

Treatment may take up to one week to start working. It is not a cure for hyperhidrosis but can provide temporary relief.

Can be repeated at six-monthly intervals for ongoing management.
